Wisdom Tooth Problems and Treatment

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Believe It or not, wisdom tooth problems and treatment issues are quite common, even in today’s world of modern medicine and dental treatments. Perhaps wisdom tooth problems and treatment problems are so common because wisdom teeth often do not fully come in to most adolescents’ jaws. Wisdom teeth are the last molars in an adult person’s jaw and are also known as the third molars. Wisdom teeth usually erupt around the age of twelve or so, but often they do not fully break through the gum line. Instead, these teeth only break partially through and leave flaps of gum where food cam become impacted, subsequently causing an infection. When wisdom teeth become impacted, they often need to be removed in order to solve the problem.

To prevent wisdom teeth impaction from occurring in your mouth, make sure to pay special close attention to your wisdom teeth or third molars as they are coming in through your gums. Make sure to brush around them thoroughly and floss them as well. It is also a very good idea to use an antiseptic mouth wash, like Listerine, when your wisdom teeth are erupting. This will help to clear away any other germs that brushing and flossing may have left behind. This will help to ensure that your wisdom teeth and gums are healthy and pain free for years to come.
